Designing for Infinity: Circular Economy Principles in Product Design
The traditional economy relies on an unsustainable model: take, make, dispose. A Circular Economy eliminates waste entirely by keeping materials and products in use at maximum value for as long as possible.
Shifting from linear manufacturing to circular design relies on three core strategies.

1. Design for Disassembly (DfD)
Traditional products often use permanent glues or complex fasteners that make repairs impossible. Design for Disassembly (DfD) engineers products to be easily taken apart using basic tools.

Because the manufacturer retains hardware ownership, product longevity directly increases profit margins:

Closing the loop ensures end-of-life materials become raw inputs for new manufacturing cycles rather than landfill waste.
Biological Cycles: Non-toxic organic materials engineered to safely biodegrade.
Technical Cycles: Synthetic alloys and polymers designed to recycle indefinitely without quality loss.
Reverse Logistics: Standardized take-back channels recover pure, single-origin materials for upcycling.
